State Library Queensland
SLQ (State Library Queensland) plays a lead role in serving all Queenslanders, through state-wide library services and partnerships with over 340 public libraries, including 22 Indigenous Knowledge Centres. SLQ is a trusted source for information, and a place for intellectual freedom, a cornerstone of democracy and custodian of Queensland’s memory. As a ‘knowledge bank’ SLQ is a vital community resource, physically and virtually for the sake of sharing, learning, collaborating, and creating. The SLQ is also responsible for the preservation of much of Queensland’s historic archival documentation. While the value of the total collection of documents and records forms a significant portion of Queensland State Assets, the record of Queensland’s history itself is invaluable with a lot of material being the only in existence. The SLQ required the support of a scanning service that could help preserve the history of materials while also making the information in the physical records accessible.
Avantix provided scanning solutions of the archival material in a delicate, careful manner allowing for the electronic data to be used and accessible as required and for the original material to be stored away. Highly technical and sensitive processes were able to manage different materials that varied in age and condition.
The priceless historical and archival documentation of the SLQ was imaged in a way that maintained the integrity of the original documentation. Avantix continues to work with SLQ in preserving materials and digitising them for future access and easy electronic retrieval.
